About us
Our mission
Altality’s interactive, research-based patient engagement modalities set a modern standard for patient engagement. Through accessible, mobile-based tools, our modalities enhance care teams’ work in providing education, empowerment, and an improved experience—resulting in increased patient activation and care collaboration that can improve outcomes across healthcare specialties.
Where we started
Founder and CEO Christina York recognized the need for interactive patient engagement modalities after a harrowing healthcare experience with her youngest daughter, Ivy. Ivy was admitted for what Christina thought would be routine, non-invasive medical care. But unfortunately, the hospital lacked resources to help a panicked toddler understand what was happening to her. Ultimately, Ivy was restrained using a papoose board and an unnecessary sedation to allow doctors to perform the procedure. As interactive digital technologies have become the standard across all industries, Christina founded Altality after recognizing the importance of integrating these resources into patient engagement strategies.

Where we are
Altality brings that crucial interactive component to patient engagement through research-based patient engagement modalities. Altality is the only company to be awarded funding for AR research from the NIH and the first to bring research-based, interactive engagement modalities to patient-facing healthcare settings. Our modalities use accessible, mobile-device-based tools that complement care teams’ work in engaging patients by providing education, empowerment, and an improved experience. By facilitating patient-provider collaboration, engaging hard-to-reach populations, and empowering patients to take an active role in their care, we help care teams increase patient activation and care collaboration to achieve better health outcomes.
Altality offers a line of pediatric patient engagement modalities, SpellBound AR, to help hospital care teams provide distraction, mobility motivation, and patient education in pediatrics. With the proven success of these solutions, we are working to expand our modalities to encompass all patient populations.
